Georgia is now one of the top budget destinations, increasingly getting popular for a European vibe.
With the experience you get, it is much cheaper than visiting a European nation, including the cost of a Schengen visa, which is itself very expensive.
However, it can cost as much as any other South Asian country.
So whether you can do a budget trip to Georgia depends solely on your comparison metrics and travel style.
In this blog, I have included the cost of the Georgia trip from India.
We travelled midrange, with a private driver between cities, booked decent hotels, ate well, and did unique experiences like the sulphur bath and Winery Khareba.
To give a context, we did a balanced trip, neither a backpack nor a luxury trip.
Additionally, as always, we opted for slow travel experiences. So if you plan to visit more than 3 destinations, by switching cities every time, the cost could go up.

Understanding Georgia’s Currency First

Before you know how much a trip to Georgia from India will cost you, it is important to understand its currency.
Georgia’s currency is the Georgian Lari (GEL). At the time of our trip, a few months back:
1 USD = approximately 2.70 GEL
1 GEL = approximately ₹30–35 INR
We converted USD to GEL in Tbilisi.
There were several exchange kiosks around our hotel, Liberty Square, and Rustaveli Avenue that offered good rates.
Pro Tip: For a quick mental math tip for Indians: “Multiply the Lari by 3 and add a zero. (e.g., 50 GEL × 3 = 150 → ₹1,500)
Important: Carry USD or EUR
It would be best to convert your home currency to USD before you fly, then exchange it for GEL in Tbilisi.
For 10 days, we converted approximately $700, which covered in-country expenses like food, experiences, and shopping. It does not cover flights and accommodation.
Pro Tip: Avoid exchanging your currency at the airport. The rates in the city are usually better. Exchange a few dollars to sustain you for a day or two, and the rest in the city.
What Impacts Your Georgia Trip Cost Most?
- Flights timing (the biggest factor)
- Private driver vs shared tours
- Hotel location (Old Town vs outskirts)
- Experiences (can double cost quickly)
- Season of travel (September–October adds 20–40% to all costs)
What a 10-Day Georgia Trip Costs: The Complete Breakdown

Flights from India to Tbilisi
If you are looking at the Georgia trip cost from India for couples, know that flights to Georgia will be your biggest single expense and will vary depending on when you book and where you fly from.
We booked a direct flight from Mumbai that took us 7 hours. However, since we had booked the flight ticket only a couple of weeks before the trip, the return tickets cost us around ₹85,000.
| Route | Economy return (approx.) |
|---|---|
| Mumbai → Tbilisi (currently 1 stop) | ₹25,000–40,000 per person |
| Delhi → Tbilisi (currently 1 stop) | ₹22,000–38,000 per person |
| Bangalore/Chennai → Tbilisi | ₹28,000–45,000 per person |
It would be best if you could get a direct flight. Indigo was running direct flights during our trip.
But connecting flights are more easily available. The common connecting hubs for a flight to Georgia are Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Dubai (FlyDubai/Emirates), and Abu Dhabi (Air Arabia).
Caveat: At the time this blog was published (Apr 2026), there were no direct flights to Georgia due to the Iran-Israel conflict affecting airspace, and the prices were higher than usual.
Check current routes on Skyscanner or Google Flights before booking
If you visit Georgia during the peak season (September–October), Georgia can feel expensive, and you might have to book the flights at a higher rate.
Pro tip: Georgia is becoming a more popular destination from India. Book flights at least 6–8 weeks in advance. Prices jump significantly in September–October when the Kakheti harvest season brings peak tourism.
Visa

Indian citizens need a Georgia eVisa, which can be obtained through an online application on evisa.gov.ge.
You will be asked to provide your personal and travel information and pay a $20 fee.
Although the rules keep changing, you might also be asked to submit your Government-issued ID and tax returns.
Additionally, you might need to submit your bank statements for the last 6 months to verify that you have sufficient funds in your bank account before travel.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| E-visa fee | approximately $20 (~₹1,700) |
| Processing time | 5–7 working days |
| Validity | 120 days from issue date, 30-day stay |
Exception: If you hold a valid US, UK, Schengen, UAE, or Japanese visa, you can enter Georgia visa-free.
While Indians had trouble entering the country even after presenting all the documents during immigration, a few years back, the issue seems to have been resolved.
We faced no issues during the immigration process (even though we were very anxious until the last moment). We also met a couple of other Indians tourists, whose immigration process was seamless.
Documents needed for a Georgia visa
These are the necessary documents and requirements you need to carry during your visa process at the Georgian airport.
- Around $1k- $1.5k in cash. (Immigration may ask to see proof of funds; carrying at least $1,000 in cash or equivalent is advisable.)
- Proof of your hotel bookings
- Return travel tickets
- Travel Insurance
You need to present these documents, irrespective of the visa process, and whether you are crossing by land or landing at the airport.
As of January 2026, Georgia has made health and accident travel insurance mandatory for all tourists.
Depending on your age and pre-determined illnesses, you can budget ₹2,000–4,000 for 2 people.
Confirm current rules on the official portal before booking.
Accommodation

Georgia has good accommodation options at every price point. If you pick carefully, even the semi-luxury feels luxurious.
We picked a mix of hotels, ranging from budget, semi-budget, and a boutique hotel, and spent around 50k on hotels for 10 days.
| Type | Approximate cost per night (for 2) |
|---|---|
| Budget guesthouse or hostel | ₹1,500–3,000 |
| Mid-range hotel (3-star) | ₹3,000–6,000 |
| Boutique hotel | ₹5,000–10,000 |
| Luxury hotel | ₹10,000–20,000+ |
Our experience:
We paid approximately ₹3,500–5,000 per night on average, across 10 nights.
We booked the Ibis Tbilisi Stadium because we wanted to spend most of our time exploring the city. It was cheap, comfortable, self-service, and centrally located.
Next, we tried Seventeen Rooms, a boutique hotel in Telavi, and absolutely loved it (highly recommended for slow travel and homely atmosphere. Perfect for families.)
Kazbegi was only a one-night stay, and here we booked a mid-range Port Caucasia. Loved it for the mountain view and luxury amenities.
Pro tips: For couples: It is best to book a stay in the old town area in Tbilisi, as it is walkable to all major sights. However, because it is the most charming and beautiful area, the rates could be higher than in other areas.
In Kakheti, Telavi works better than Sighnaghi as a base since it’s more central to the region.
Although we chose to stay a night at Kazbegi for its hill station vibe, you can choose to stay in Tbilisi and opt for a day tour. (Check my recommended guided tour here)
Food and Drink
Georgian food can come as a surprise for its variety, delicacy, and affordability. (At least as compared to indian cities)
Our actual spending across 10 days (for 2 people):
| Category | Total (GEL) | Total (INR approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Lunches and dinners | ~482 GEL | ~₹13,500 |
| Snacks and drinks | ~100 GEL | ~₹2,800 |
| Water | ~15 GEL | ~₹420 |
| Food total | ~597 GEL | ~₹16,700 |
Although tap water is safe to drink, we did buy bottles for commutes between cities and in Tbilisi, where tap water was not easily available.

But for places like wineries, national parks, or monuments, you can find a small water fountain that is completely safe to drink from.
You can budget Average per meal (lunch or dinner) for 2: approximately 44–50 GEL (₹1,230–1,400)
Most expensive meal: Our most expensive meal was a lunch in the cafe Balcony Sighnaghi that cost us 63.5 GEL (₹1,778) for two with drinks and 2 dishes. The restaurant was right in the middle of the city, at a tourist-heavy location, and had great ratings on Google.
Cheapest meal: Our cheapest meal was 7 GEL (₹196) for two at a simple local café in Telavi, near our hotel.
If staying in Telavi, look for quiet cafes in the interior or residential areas, which are usually cheaper with equally good food.
Cafes in the Old Town area cater heavily to tourists and price accordingly. Walk one or two streets away from the main tourist lanes and prices drop significantly.
Similarly, while there are ample Indian restaurants in Georgia, they charge higher prices compared to Georgian food. We found a lot of Indians in Georgia, as tourists as well as restaurant owners and servers.
I fell ill one night and found comfort in curd rice from a local Indian restaurant, named Aroma: Indian and Arabic Restaurant.
Pro-tip: Indian food in Georgia is a great safety net, but expect to pay a premium; it was one of our most expensive meals
What we ate: We consumed a mix of Georgian, Indian, and continental food. But we did taste almost all the major Georgian foods: khachapuri, lobiani, lobio, fresh tomato salads, and khinkali.
We found vegetarian options easily in Tbilisi and Kakheti, though choices narrowed in smaller towns.
Note: We found that Georgians add egg to pasta dough. So if you order pasta, enquire beforehand in case you are a vegetarian.
Transport Within Georgia

Private driver (intercity):
We hired a private driver for the full trip, which made travel between Tbilisi, Mtskheta, Kazbegi, and Kakheti entirely comfortable. If your idea of travel is slow travel, or you prefer to travel comfortably at your own time, I would highly recommend that.
Check available private drivers here.
Intracity transfers.
Bolt (Tbilisi cabs): Bolt cabs are available throughout the country, except when travelling to a remote area.
You can expect to pay 5–10 GEL per ride for most city journeys.
We loved it because they were reliable and safe. We used it extensively, and it never felt expensive.
The unique thing about Bolt Cab in Georgia is that the person driving you does not need to be a professional cab driver. Many commoners also use their car as cabs without needing to add a different colored name plate color as in India.
You can also add your multi-currency travel card to the Bolt app to pay directly through the app.
Download the Bolt and Yandex Go app before you travel. Avoid taking cabs flagged from the street. They can be expensive, and they hardly agree to bargaining.
Metro (Tbilisi):
In case you wish to take public transport, you can opt for the metro or buses.
They are cheap at 1 GEL per ride with a MetroMoney card (~₹30).
There are separate kiosks and counters throughout the country for buying and recharging the MetroCard.
Old Town isn’t directly served, but the metro is useful for longer city distances.
Sightseeing and Experiences

Georgia has some free attractions (most churches and viewpoints cost nothing) and some paid ones worth every rupee.
| Experience | Cost for couple | INR approx. |
|---|---|---|
| Sulphur bath | 130 GEL total | ₹3,640 |
| Funicular | 50 GEL total ( 2 for card, 12 for return ticket each ) | ₹1,540 |
| Cable car | 10 GEL | ₹280 |
| Winery Khareba | 60 GEL total | ₹1,680 |
| Sighnaghi tour | 150 GEL | ₹4,200 |
| Lagodekhi trek | Free | — |
Should you opt for a sulphur bath?
Honestly, it is worth doing once just for experience. We paid 130 GEL for a private room for an hour at Chreli Abano, which we later came to know is a popular place and so considerably expensive. However, it was gorgeous.
The budget-friendly alternative is the Kyiv Sulfur Bath at 4 Kyiv Street; a friend recommended it as significantly cheaper than the famous Chreli Abano.
If budget is a concern, ask your hotel or driver about local options before booking the tourist-facing baths.
The experience is unique, but honest disclosure: I found the sulphur smell overpowering and ended with a mild headache.
My partner was fine. If you’re sensitive to strong smells, go in knowing this.
I have written about the sulphur bath experience here.
Note on the Sighnaghi tour:
We paid 150 GEL for a 30‑minute electric tour car ride in Sighnaghi, which really felt a bit overpriced.
Although it was too hot to take a walk and our driver couldn’t enter the town due to a union arrangement, we had no options.
If you can walk or arrange your own entry, do that instead.
Shopping
We bought some churchkhela (grape and nut candy) for friends, Georgian honey, and a few fridge magnets.

Avoid shopping for souvenirs at the airport or shops in the main tourist areas. They are way too expensive.
We found various small shops while exploring the city on foot around Fabrica Square and Rustavelli Avenue, where rates were reasonable.
| Detail | Cost |
|---|---|
| Total shopping | ~₹4,200 |
Pro tip: Tbilisi has better prices for wine and souvenirs than Kakheti.
The Dry Bridge Flea Market in Tbilisi is excellent for unique vintage finds.

Utilities
We also bought a local SIM and an India to Europe adapter from the market. You can opt for e-SIM, and buy a travel adapter like this before you travel.
10-day Georgia itinerary cost for 2 People
| Category | Cost (INR approx.) |
|---|---|
| Flights | ₹56,000–80,000 |
| Visa | ₹3,400 |
| Insurance | ₹4,000–8,000 |
| Stay | ₹40,000–60,000 |
| Food | ₹16,700 |
| Transport | ₹40,000–60,000 |
| Experiences | ₹18,000–22,000 |
| Shopping | ₹4,000–6,000 |
| Misc | ₹3,000–5,000 |
| Total | ₹1,65,000–2,44,000 |
Most of the best experiences are free. Walking Old Town Tbilisi, visiting Holy Trinity Cathedral, hiking in Lagodekhi National Park, watching the puppet show at Gabriadze Theater, walking the Bridge of Love; none of these cost anything.
I have detailed things to do and places to see in Tbilisi in this Tbilisi travel guide.
Budget‑range recommendations for 2 people
| Trip Style | Approx. total (₹) for 2 | Notes |
| Budget | 1,20,000–1,60,000 | Guesthouses, public & shared transport, and fewer paid experiences |
| Mid-Range | 1,65,000–2,44,000 | Decent hotels, some private driver, key experiences |
| Luxury | 3,00,000+ | 4–5 star hotels, private transfers, premium tours & shopping. |
Georgia’s paid experiences are optional, not mandatory for a good trip.
Money Tips for Indian Travellers in Georgia
- Carry USD from India. Indian Rupees are not widely exchangeable in Georgia. USD is accepted at all exchange counters and gives you flexibility.
- Best exchange rates are in the city, not the airport. Liberty Square and Rustaveli Avenue have dozens of small kiosks with competitive rates. Check two or three before exchanging a large amount.
- 1 GEL = approximately ₹30–35. Mentally calculate quickly: multiply GEL by 35 to get the rough INR equivalent in hundreds. A 45 GEL meal = approximately ₹1,260.
- Bolt > street cabs. Always. Street cabs at tourist spots in Tbilisi charge tourist prices. Bolt shows you the price before you book.
- Budget separately for experiences. The winery, sulphur bath, funicular, and Sighnaghi tour are individually affordable but add up quickly if you do them all in a few days. We recommend spreading them across the trip rather than clustering them.
- We didn’t use credit cards except for Bolt cabs. We had to travel with USD anyway, and so chose to exchange them to GEL as and when required.
Is Georgia Affordable for Indian Travellers?

Yes, genuinely, not just comparatively.
For the quality of experiences, food, landscapes, and architecture, Georgia is a remarkable value. Public transport is cheap and accessible, and many of Georgia’s best attractions are free or low-cost.
For Indian travellers, Georgia is roughly 1/3–1/2 the in‑country cost of a short trip to Western Europe like France or Italy, once flights are accounted for.
Georgia is getting more popular from India, so 2026–2027 prices may edge up slightly compared to pre‑pandemic years.
The biggest variables in your budget are flights and accommodation. If you book flights 2–3 months in advance and choose midrange hotels rather than luxury properties, a 10-day Georgia trip for two people is comfortably achievable in ₹₹1,65,000–2,44,000 all-in.

Georgia Trip Cost: Questions You Might Have
How much does a 10-day Georgia trip cost from India for 2 people?
For a comfortable midrange trip with a private driver, decent hotels, and key experiences, budget approximately ₹₹1,65,000–2,44,000 for two people, including flights and visa.
Is Georgia cheaper than Europe for Indian travellers?
Significantly. Georgia offers a similar aesthetic experience: cobblestone streets, old churches, mountain landscapes, and wine culture, at roughly one-third the cost of Western Europe.
How much cash should I carry to Georgia from India?
We converted $700 (~₹59,000) for two people for 10 days, and that covered all in-country expenses comfortably, including accommodation, food, transport, experiences, and shopping. For a slightly tighter trip, $500–600 should suffice. However, to avoid any issues during immigration, you must carry at least $1k
Should I carry USD or EUR to Georgia?
USD is the most practical. It’s widely exchanged at good rates at kiosks throughout Tbilisi and other cities. EUR works too. Do not carry INR — it is not easily exchangeable in Georgia.
Where are the best currency exchange rates in Tbilisi?
The small exchange kiosks around Liberty Square and Rustaveli Avenue offer the best rates, significantly better than the airport counters. Check two or three kiosks before exchanging a large sum.
How much does food cost per day in Georgia?
For a couple eating restaurant meals, expect to spend 80–120 GEL per day (₹2,240–3,360) on lunches, dinners, and snacks. Tbilisi has a wider range of price points. Smaller towns like Telavi are slightly cheaper.
Are Tbilisi cabs expensive?
No, Tbilisi cabs are very affordable. Using the Bolt app, most rides within the city centre cost 5–10 GEL (₹140–280). Do not take cabs flagged from the street at tourist spots, as these charge tourist prices.
Is the Georgia trip cost worth it compared to Kerala or Sri Lanka?
Georgia offers something categorically different: European-style architecture, mountain landscapes, wine culture, and Orthodox churches are not available in India or Sri Lanka.
The flight is longer, and the visa adds cost, but the overall experience-to-cost ratio is excellent. For Indian couples who’ve already done Kerala and Sri Lanka and want an international trip that feels genuinely different, Georgia delivers.
